Wistful Whisper, the Mistress of Whisper Manor, Medium Supreme, Grandmaster of and Keeper of Secrets of the veil, is a pale taupe pony with flecks of ash gray swirled about in barely visible patterns along her body. A very gothic pony, her mane, long, elegant and combed to hang at her sides is a sickly Arsenic color, twirled with hints of charcoal. Small for her age, she seems as though she has overcome a serious illness at some point in her life. While strong and elegant, one cannot help but feel there is a sad frailty hidden behind her elegant and often oddly slightly cheerful demeanor. Her ash grey eyes a portal into worlds unknown and a history not to be spoken of. Her cutie mark, equally mysterious, a mist swirled crystal ball filled with faint shadows, things beyond that veil, with no form.

She is a well rounded pony. Usually a quiet individual she is quite capable of making her opinions known, through force if necessary. While she has a healthy appetite for chicanery, it is not her driving force. She is equally likely to invite you over tea as she is to scare your children half to death, depending on the circumstance. Lovely in nature, she is a significantly high brow pony, though this is mostly just an act to promote an air of elegance.

She is a known fan of elegance, trickery, and all things spooky, with a healthy enjoyment of flowers. Though she also has a less than kind side, it is generally reserved for fools and frauds.

As for her history, Wistful Whisper was born the middle child in a long line of aristocratic ponies. Living in a great and sprawling manor which had been added to over the years, no-one could ever learn the secret of their success. The family was, by nature, very secretive and only the head of the household was aware of the family history. Deep below the home, below the catacombs, below the waters, was a chamber where many illicit dealings were held long passed. Many hundred of years ago, or even longer, ponies of the family meddled in places they should not.

During Wistful Whisper's childhood, a force came to collect a long forgotten debt owed to those beyond the veil. An illness swept through the family, first, taken the eldest son, and then the mother. Distressed, her father began to spend his time in the library, researching all he could in a feverish attempt to find a cure for the strange supernatural illness. It progressed poorly, and before long, the youngest child, Whisper's sister, became gravely ill as well. A quick sickness, terrible and wasting, the father began to lose his sanity as his family faded away before him. She eventually died, and he fell into a deep depression. Wistful, as the only remaining child, was brought in to be taught the family history, in what appeared to be a futile attempt to pass on knowledge. Her father had begun to show signs of the illness as well, and there seemed to be no way to stop it.

As she was educated, she began to grow into her own, finding insights and connections in the family tomes that her father could not. As his sickness progressed, he became rooted the library, unable to travel even to eat. He continued to instruct her, but as she began to show illness as well, he slowly lost his mind. On the day he died, Wistful Whisper gained her cutie mark. Very ill, her intense insight into the world of the unknown and her supernatural illness had brought her close to the veil between the living and the further. Beyond even the afterlife, the further is a place of darkness, pain, and wandering souls, as well as beings not of mortal nature. The last child of the family, had become a medium. Using her new talent, and her unicorn magic, she was able to break the deal that bound her family. Too little too late, she had no-one to help her overcome the sickness. Searching through the books in the library, she found mention of a hidden section, accessed only from the attic.

Upon perusing this section, she learned of the great well beneath the family's property, where the boundary was tenuous. And so, she traveled deep below. Into the catacombs, below them, past the family's well, and into the chamber. The construction had long since fallen into disuse, and only be the grace of some unseen force did she make it to her destination. Having long since realized that without help, she would die, she searched through the closer reaches of the veil for one who would be willing to sign a contract with her. A gentleman who served the family long past and had an untimely end stepped forth. In exchange for a second chance at life he agreed to serve and aid her in her endeavors. The bargain was struck, and he was pulled as close to the world of the living as she could muster, using a weak skeletal frame as a conduit. It crumbled upon entry, and without an anchor, he could not be fully returned. Still, it turned out much better than one might expect. Almost entirely without side effects, he is nearly completely alive. There were some issues with his existence, but he was perfectly content that her end of the bargain had been fulfilled.

Her faithful servant, Giddyup_Graves, helped her properly entomb her father, and took care of her. Managing the family's remaining finances in an incredibly adept manner he saw her through her illness and into health again. Many years passed with simply Whisper and Graves for company, though it soon became evident that something was amiss. Strange occurrences in the nursery, books moving in the library, the garden tending itself and broken things fixing themselves in the night. A look beyond showed that remnants of her family still hung tenuously to the threads of the living world, and while she could not return them, being fragments of their former selves, she was able to anchor them to the property itself. In time, they may begin to regain pieces of themselves that they have lost, allowing her to give them a proper afterlife. But for now, they are merely a reminder of what happens when one is foolish.

Shortly after that, she began to go on excursions with graves. With funds running low, they traveled to find places, people, items that required her unique services. It was more difficult than they had imagined. Modern day was much different than the manner in which she was raised and world in which he lived. Eventually a plan was concocted, to pass the manor off as a haunted house. The property was rigged with many devices, and she would use her powers to indebt real supernatural forces to aid her in exchange for certain favors regarding messages and family.

The haunted house is now a top vacation destination for travelers, containing several rooms and a well stocked kitchen, even the staff believe the owner simply to be eccentric and demand that the act be kept up all day. Oddly, no-one seems to see her assistant during this time, though she can clearly be heard holding conversations with him.
