Wisteria's Journal - Entry Two

I had the most incredible journey, this morning. I encountered an odd stallion named DragonsBane in the town square, a bit away from the train station. He told me and a few other ponies that he was searching for an ancient book that could only be found at midnight and was of great importance to him. Princess Celestia had similar interest in the book and had requested that he use his skills to find its hiding place and obtain the ancient knowledge within its pages. Dragons had found the tome, but required assistance to acquire it. He found his help in me and another pegasus by the name of Carson. Unfortunately, Carson became fearful when we entered the Everfree forest and had to leave us. DragonsBane lead me to a cave, deep in the forest. When we entered, runes and pictographs decorated every spare centimeter of the walls and even the ceiling. One pictograph which I had indicated to Dragons had a shiny object wedged into a crevasse in the picture. When I retrieved it (I had to do so as it was many feet above the ground where Dragons was confined), it turned out to be an amulet of some sort. It is a shiny silvery-white color, like a pearl, and an almost perfect circle. It is about half an inch in width, and a single inch in diameter. A small golden thing is on the top that looks to have a string threaded through it to make the amulet into a necklace or bracelet. The amulet itself has swirly designs carved into it, with a symbol in the center (much like http://static3.depositphotos.com/1003817/193/i/950/depositphotos_1931621-Vintage-mystery-amulet-from-old-metal.jpg ). It was quite a beautiful object. This amulet was later found to be the key that opened the temple vault containing the books we searched for.

When we entered the temple, there were two booby traps that we had to encounter to reach the vault. The first was an angry dragon which attacked us. DragonsBane drank a green potion that caused him to transform into a furry dragon five times his size that he called a weredraco. He managed to communicate with the dragon, which granted us passage deeper into the temple. The second trap was a pressure-tile which, when pressed down and released, shot a series of poisonous darts at anypony attempting to cross the hallway towards the vault. DragonsBane took one in his shoulder. He fell unconcious, but I managed to revive him by removing the dart. We used the amulet to open the locked door and turned to leave. I mistakenly pulled a lever in the wall, thinking it would turn off the darts trap, but instead it opened a door from which poisonous gas seeped. I wrapped my hooves around DragonsBane and airlifted him away from the gas, but both of us suffered unpleasant effects. My throat burned and my hooves became numb, and DragonsBane's weredraco transformation was partially triggered and he breathed fire and burnt his mouth and throat. DragonsBane carried me upon his back the remainder of the way out of the temple. The mist followed us all of the way to the entrance to the temple, and so I had to fly DragonsBane away from the poisonous gas again. I set him down by the pictograph where we had found the amulet, where he revealed that the mist had also triggered another transformation- he had grown a pair of dragon-like wings. They vanished when we reached Ponyville again, but it was a startling development for sure! He had to take his leave of me then, but promised that we would soon see eachother again and that I could take a glimpse of the treasures stored within the three books we found. I plan to request, upon seeing him again, that I can keep the amulet we discovered. It seems to hold no significance other than being the key to open the door of the vault, and I would so like a memento to remember this. Not to mention that the amulet is rather beautiful to look at and even has the clasp to make into a necklace. I would keep it safe from others wanting to exploit the temple's other treasures. I do so hope that Dragons will allow me to keep it...
