Gymnastics Competition IC Thread

Postby Tek Croon » Mon Aug 13, 2012 8:30 am

In this thread, ponies who are not able to roleplay practicing IC in the chat but wish to participate in the event and get practice rewards, can post a 300+ word practice fiction at their leisure to get credit for one practice point.

Just as a reminder how practice points work, you can put up to five practice points into every event being held but there are only 14 days to do so. You can earn up to 14 practice points through a combination of IC chat roleplays and thread posts. You can only get one point per day in the chat but in this thread the limit is one point per post. This allows ponies who have to miss a day in chat can make it up here and still hit the 14 point cap. It also allows our forum users to participate alongside our chat users. YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPORTING YOUR PRACTICE TO ME. I will not browse chat logs to find your practice. PUB me with the details for your practice and I'll read through it.

We will be rolling a d8 for the event and for each practice point you increase your lowest possible roll by one. For example, if I put 3 practice points into vault, then I increase my lowest possible roll from 1 to 1+3 which is 4. Ergo, any roll below a four automatically becomes a four. This simulates that with practice you eliminate mistakes that lose points while still preserving the chance of having a really good performance (rolling a 7 or 8).

All entrants will have to log into the chat program for the purpose of rolling dice sometime between Aug. 26 and Aug. 30. Message me if this is a problem.

Finally, here is an example of a practice post. Your roleplays in the chat or in this thread should have at about this much content to count. This is 430 words just so you know 300+ isn't asking much.

--------------------------------------

Dew Mist is in her backyard today. The warm sun shining down, heating the plastic mat she had set out and making her hooves sting when she stepped on it. The smells of sweetbread wafted in the breeze from the nearby bakery Sugar Cube Corner and made her stomach grow. Not yet, she told it mentally. We must practice first, then eat. A few ponies had gathered at her fence to watch her practicing. One was snickering at her leotard, the others were just hoping she'd do something 'really cool'. She ignored them even if she did still hear them.

The orange filly with golden mane shining in the bright light, stared intently at the radio, mentally reviewing her routine while waiting for her song to start once more. She had her own argot for her moves and flourishes. Flare, 2, 3, 4, Spin, 2, 3, leap, down, roll, 2, 3, ... she thought intently, picturing herself performing each move with careful precision.

One might question why Dew Mist was so intent on performing here. The simple reason is that there was a gymnastics competition gearing up in a few weeks and she was intent that she would not miss it. She would practice her legs off if she had to but she would be ready. Her life goal was to become a stunt pony like Silvershine and her family. She knew that they had to be physically trim to leap out of windows, off of balloons and bridges, or anything else that an actress would not be willing to do herself. Plus, Merry Andrew had given her that dismissive hoof telling her she couldn't do it. She wouldn't take that from him or anypony. She would show them all!

When the music began again, Dew stepped into her routine a little shaky but solid. She began dancing, spinning, leaping rolling, and tumbling across the mat, the hot plastic making her tickle all over as she did, her long golden tail making arcs behind her in synchronized movements with her mane. It wasn't the most incredible performance, but she put a lot of effort into it and by the end, she leaped into a flip and landed with a stumble and posed for her onlookers, sweat running down her face and her breath coming quickly. Two of the ponies golf clopped for her, while another whistled a ponycall. She blushed slightly despite herself.

Dew remained like that a moment or ten before taking a deep breath and stepping back to her beginning position and reviewing the routine once more in her head, waiting for the music to play again...

Here is an example of a practice pub:

___________________________________________

Title: I want one practice point in __ EVENT __
Body:
I practiced in __ROOM__ between __START__ and __END__

Optional: Paste your roleplay here.

I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. NO PUB, NO CREDIT. I WILL ONLY LOOK IN THIS THREAD AND IN TEK_CROON'S PUBS FOR ROLEPLAYS! I expect one PUB per CHARACTER, per day. And don't forget to tell me which event you are seeking a point in. If I have to guess, you don't get it.

(( for missed IC action on 8-17, to earn a practice point in parallel bars ))

Seabreeze looks at her newest adversary, sitting there in the backyard of Kite's tower. The parallel bars, she had studied these especially well, and she knew she could do well on them.

Affixing the magic dampener over her horn, she takes a deep breath and begins. First she leaps up, balancing her weight between the two bars on her forehooves. But that only lasts a moment, as she uses the momentum of the leap to propel her rear half in front of her, then over her head as she hoofstands inverted there for a few seconds. She tilts just enough for gravity to catch her, then once again uses the momentum to propel her next move. This time, she swings her back legs around from behind to the front and back again, making 3 such circles and lifting her forehooves out of the way before placing them back down in turn for support on the bars.

After the third revolution she pushes upward, and the wight is taken off her front hooves to be picked up by her rear one as she does a split, one leg over each bar. She holds this pose for just long enough, then leans to the left putting her weight on her forehooves again. with a small flourish, she flips forward around the bar 1 and a half full revolutions before dismounting onto the grass.

Panting a bit, she nods to herself satisfied and takes a nice long sip of cold lemonade. Refreshed, she removes the dampener from her horn and continues on her daily routine.

(( please tell me that was 300 words >.< ))
