It's Thursday. Physics time.

Chell shows up almost fifteen minutes late for class, covered in dirt, with saddlebags bulging. She looks irritated and annoyed, though as she lays eyes on the foals, her expression softened some. "Sorry, guys. I got caught up in today's lesson: the law of conservancy." She sets her saddlebags down. "You see, when you take matter and move it from one container to another, it may change its shape, and you may change how much is in one container, but if you add what's in both containers together, you end up with what you started." She pulls out two differently-shaped cups, and a bottle of water. She pours the bottle of water into one glass, until it's full. "To demonstrate, I have here a glass of water. If I pour the water from this glass into that one..." She proceeds to pour half of the water into the second glass, "...now I have two half-glasses...but the amount of water hasn't changed." She carefully pours both the cups back into the bottle, then looks over the class. "...I was testing this law with dirt, until I realized I was late for class. I can safely say, the law still applies. When you shovel dirt out of a hole, there's still a lot of dirt left over." She affords a small smile.

"Now, who wants to guess, which of these cups holds more water? The tall skinny one, or the shorter, fatter one?"

"Ooh! Ooh!" Blue Thrush raises a hoof eagerly. "The taller one!" It was, after all, more full because the amount of water rose higher than that in the shorter one, right?

Immelmann stares for a moment, then looks over to blue Thrush. "Is same." she remarks idly. This lesson wasn't having explosions.

Gardania blinks at Chell and looks a little worried, she hadn't seen Chell at home all week. But she puts that aside for now and focuses on the class at hoof, one thing at a time after all. She blinks and tilts her head at the problem at hoof, the tall one is taller then the short one, but the short one is wider then the long one. She thinks on this for a bit, then when she hears Melody she thinks that she's likely right and nods in agreement, but to be sure they'll have to wait and see.

Kyubi hmms at the problem Chell has given her. "Oh! Its the long one! Oh wait no, the fat one! The long one, the fat one, the long one the fat one!" she says this while zipping from each cup in turn. "Arrg! I can't make up my mind!" she says holding her head, then a light bulb pings above her head "Oh oh! I know now!" she says picking up the long cup and putting it in the fat cup "Now they both hold the same amount!" she says with a smile and flies back to her desk.

The answer, of course, had been both, and Chell had announced to the class that she needed to get harder puzzles for them to solve. However, over the course of the rest of the class, Blue Thrush had revealed he didn't know what one had when one added two halves, together, so today, for math class, Chell announced that the class would be studying fractions.

...........aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand then Chell doesn't show up for math class, today. Cheerilee should be subbing, instead!

Cascade looks rather puzzled as Chell fails to appear. She was her favorite teacher! So instead she nudges MelodyShadow. "I wonder what happened to Miss Chell," she whispers, in case Cheerilee might be busy teaching them.

Kyubi tilts her head as Chell doesn't arrive today. She raises a hoof to get Cheerilee's attention then asks curiously "Wheres Chell?"

Gardania doesn't appear to be at school today.

Kyubi pouts at the work sheets, those aren't fun! She wonders if Chell is feeling alright and where she is.

Gardania is also absent today. Infact, she hadn't been to school all week.

Monday came, and Chell was back, but looked tired. She was less than her usual peppy self, and she spent the day working on fractions. She managed to keep the lesson simple and clear, though did little to really enhance it the way she normally did.

Thursday, Chell was once again late, and looked overly tired.

"Sorry, guys... Didn't mean to be late." She gives a bit of a smile. "Today, we're gonna talk about history... More specifically, we're going to discuss views our ancient ancestors held, and how they relate to modern physical sciences.

"Now, our ancestors believed that the world was comprised of four elements. Earth..." On the chalkboard, she draws a quick cross-section of some dirt, rocks, and grass growing from the top. "Water..." She draws some waves breaking over a cross-section of water, and some fishies swimming in it, underneath the "earth" drawing. "Air..." She draws the sun and some clouds in the sky, next to "earth". "And fire." She draws a campfire underneath "air" and next to "water".

"Now, I find this very interesting... Many modern scientists simply discard this idea as antiquated. After all, we've discovered more than a hundred other elements, such as iron, oxygen, hydrogen, helium, palladium, radioactive isotopes such as uranium and plutonium, and the list goes on. Those are the elements that we now know make up the world. So why would Ms Chell bring up these old ideas?" She gestures to the four pictures and smiles. "Simple. Because all matter behaves in similar ways, based on different temperatures.

"When it's at its coolest, all matter has a solid form." She grins, and has the chalk write the word "solid" next to her picture of "earth". "As a solid, matter doesn't generally change its shape. Two examples of solids would be ice and rocks... Everypony knows what rocks and ice are, right? They're kinda similar, aren't they? They don't change their shape. If you try really, reeeeeeally hard to bend them, they just break. There are, of course, exceptions to every rule, but by and large, those are solids.

"Now, if you heat up a solid enough, it will melt into a liquid." She writes the word "liquid" next to her picture of "water". "Liquids, unlike solids, don't hold their shape. That is to say, they'll take any shape of a container they're poured into. To continue with our examples, ice will melt into water...and rocks will melt into magma. Or lava. Depending on whether the melted rocks have carbon dioxide dissolved in them or not.

"If you keep heating a liquid up, eventually, it will evaporate into a gas." She writes the word "gas" next to her drawing of the air. "That's right! The air you're breathing, it's all a mixture of gasses...the most important of which are oxygen and nitrogen, which we need in some level, carbon dioxide, which we breathe out, and water vapor." She grins. "If you've ever watched your parents boiling water, and you've seen steam rising from the boiling water...that's water vapor. That's water, when it's turned into a gaseous form. Gases are similar to liquids, in that they don't have a stable form like solids do, but a liquid will tend to stick to solid objects. Gases simply...freely float. Sometimes they simply disperse into the air...or sometimes, they form bodies, like clouds. The clouds we see in our skies are pretty much made up of water vapor... That's how pegasus ponies make it rain.

"Now, finally...if you heat a gas up reeeeeeeally really hot, you'll create a plasma." She writes that word next to the picture of "fire". "Now, if any of you are studying biology, you may have heard that there's 'plasma' in the blood. This is completely different. This is what you get when you heat something so very hot that all by itself, it makes light and heat." She writes those words underneath the word "plasma".

"Now, it's important to understand, there's a difference between fire and plasma. Fire is a chemical reaction, which requires a flammable fuel, such as wood or gasoline, oxygen, and heat. Plasma, on the other hoof, is what you get when any matter, whether it's flammable or not, is super-heated until it makes light and heat. It doesn't need oxygen to burn, and whatever is 'burning' doesn't need to be flammable. Now, if you want examples of where you can see plasma in nature...all you have to do is look up into the sky. At night, we see thousands and thousands of balls of plasma...and during the day, we see a really big one.

"Now, I'm gonna have a review test next week going over the things we've studied so far... The laws of movement, aerodynamics, conservancy, and the states of matter. Anything I've told you that I won't test you over, don't worry. It won't be on the test. Add to that, I don't expect you to know what the difference between fire and plasma are, but there will be extra credit questions about that, so if you feel like being an overachiever, or if you think you need the help to boost your grade, might wanna study that. One of the questions will be to name a source of plasma you've seen, so please, no blurting out the answer to that.

"Any questions?" She smiles gently to the class, looking rather accomplished.

Gardania is back in class on monday! Though she had been there friday as well. She watches and listens to Chell, though she's kinda worried about her.

Thursday Gardania looks worried as Chell shows up late and looks tired. But she listens to the lesson and gets a confused look as she does. At the end of the lesson she tilts her head and wonders what Chell was talking about, what plasma is in the sky?

Kyubi watches Chell on monday and follows the lesson, some what, though there are doodles on her paper.

Thursday when Chell shows up Kyubi smiles and waves to her "Hiiiii!" she says happily. Then listens to some of the lesson and is trying to hide under her desk by the end of it. She doesn't get it.
