Year of the Pony.

Postby Derby Runner » Wed Jan 22, 2014 4:18 pm

Seeing as this year happens to be the Chinese year of the horse Pony, I wanted to be able to do something big to commemorate it. It won't come around again for 12 years after all.

This will be a week long event. With each day filled with more and more things to do!

Day 0: Before it begins, candles will be placed all around town and lit for the week to come.

Day 1: It all begins with a performing arts festival in the Fields. Dance, music, and more. Feel free to let the circus pony inside you out. As the day winds down there will be a big group dinner inside the inn in the Hub.

Day 2: The Dance of the Dragon, or rather, a parade. Many ponies will be out in costume. There will also be a parade through the streets of Ponyville, and it will continue to Canterlot, it will represent the dragon migration, with the destination being Canterlot, instead of the volcano they migrated to.

Day 3: On the third day, there will be metal bins scattered throughout the town for ponies to throw bits into to later be gathering for charity. They say what comes around goes around, so this celebration is all for the good fortune of wealth to come. This day will also be the day for ponies to construct stands for the day to come.

Day 4: An old fashioned festival. Stands will be serving anything from food to entertainment, ring toss, tests of strength, and many other old fashioned games will be present. There is a twist though, as it would be most appropriate to wear a mask. This celebration is for burying old grudges and/or having fun with everypony there is around. That evening there will be a shadow puppet show in the library area, hosted by none other than I.

Day 5: This day will start with a bang. The celebrations this day will be about noise. A dance until you drop contest will be held, karaoke will be common, amateur DJs can have some fun, and firework stands will open to sell firecrackers and sparklers, with a big firework show in the evening.

Day 6: That noise was all the attract the attention of the spirits of those who have passed, and on this day, ponies should remember those in their lives who may no longer be with them, and to also wish for happiness and good luck to come to those who they have not seen in awhile, be it distant friends or family members.

Day 7: On the final day, ponies are to wish for success in the new year. It's a day to spend with those you love, and to look towards the future, a tree will be brought in by train, and ponies can write their wishes/resolutions down and to tie them to the trees branches.

Anypony else have more ideas or would like to pitch in?

I think seven days is overdoing, especially in a row. Even for Christmas/Hearthswarming we took breaks in between the events.

I'd have to agree. Its sounds fun though! Maybe you can combine some of the days and leave the empty days as days of rest?

Well, both day 3 and 6 are resting days, though I could see about adding another. Any suggestions?
