Another potential problem for the Internet...

Basically, in a week or so, the world governments are going to vote on whether to expand the ITU's authority over the Internet. Current leaked proposals for the Internet, should this pass, include censoring the 'Net by dictating what can and cannot be on websites, charging sites that pass the censorship gamut to exist (in addition to whatever sites are paying for hosting fees and domain registration and whatnot), and an organization that makes closed-door decisions on a one-country-one-vote basis. So our governments would vote about decisions, and we wouldn't even find out that they were issues until after a decision was made.

Feel free to sign or ignore. I realize a lot of you simply don't care; if you're one of those, please feel free to say nothing so those of us who do care can try to have a say in this decision.

"Feel free to sign or ignore. I realize a lot of you simply don't care; if you're one of those, please feel free to say nothing so those of us who do care can try to have a say in this decision."

That's kind of a poor way to phrase that, to be honest. You can't play the "You must do something or we will be oppressed!" card and immediately follow it with the "If you're stupid, don't try to adversely affect us smart people's decisions" card. And obviously, anypony who doesn't sign whatever petition is going on there is not going to have a "say"...just like those who send in some e-form that is supposed to be forwarded to a government official won't have a say.

You know what? If all you came here to do was nitpick my phrasing, then I'm going to politely ask you to back off. Every time I have felt concerned enough to post something, some player or other has felt the need to come by and put me down for being stupid or overreacting, or to post something that has absolutely no relevance to anything at all in an attempt to be insulting. I feel that such things are counterproductive and irritating, and I find this to be along those lines.

Please, oh great sir, forgive me for taking an interest in the future of our site and not wanting to be nitpicked over stupid crap. Like I just was. For being irritated with the fact that when I take an interest in the future of the site, I get nitpicked over stupid crap.

No, it doesn't give us a "say" in this decision, you're absolutely right. It does, however, give us a voice. Which is better than nothing, and what I intended to write at the time. Sadly, I was tired, and about to go to bed, and maybe my words didn't come out quite right. Thank you for having the love, tolerance, care, and understanding to at least attempt to try and decipher what I might have meant, o great god of English.

Any other trolls? Because I'm out of patience for this. Just get it out of your systems.

In all honesty Sunset.. I think he was just saying how those two phrases sort of contradict eachother.. I don't think he had any ill messages in his post..

I never once even implied "you must do something or we will be oppressed". The very idea that any one would accuse me of saying that is ludicrous embodied. I simply provided a link so that those who wish to may sign the petition to try and convince our governments to oppose this action. Nor did I accuse any one of stupidity if they don't sign. I simply provided a link to a petition, and expressed my desire not to be harassed about it. Which apparently, I deserve to be harassed for.

For the love of all that is good and holy, get off my frakking case.

You know what. This, is dumb. This whole thing is dumb. We're all big girls and boys and honestly this is just stupid.

Let it be said that I'm sorry for getting involved in something that wasn't my bag. I'm sick, working on a brand new schedule which I haven't gotten settled into yet and I just got pissed for no reason because I read something that rubbed me the wrong way.

This is rare for me now, it didn't used to be when I was in my teens, but... for some dumb reason I thought I could get away with it. Well I was wrong and I realize I just made myself look like a colossal arse. Of course, that's not to say that we weren't all a little right and a lot wrong, it's just saying that we all went about this the wrong way.

I've already PMed Chell saying I'm sorry and we can talk about it later.

I was wrong. I wasn't clear-headed. And that's it.

Thank you, Sali... I'm sorry, too. I'm tired, I'm hurting, and I didn't ask to be treated this way. I still resent that this is out there for the world to see. But I appreciate your apology.

I have a lot of vitriol to spare for... reasons. We all have issues, after all, and sometimes it just comes out. You just happened to draw my ire for whatever reason, even if you didn't deserve it and when that happens I can be mean for the sake of it. Everything just comes out unfiltered and I'm the kind to say what I think, yanno?

I'm sorry for being a jerk, especially out in the open like that. You didn't deserve it, regardless of how I felt at the moment.

Edit: @__@ Eugh, so hard to remember what was said where and when, I keep repeating myself endlessly. I'm so frazzled right now, it's not even funny.

Thank you for deleting the posts, and for the public apology. It means a lot to me, and I do appreciate it. I forgive you.

I retaliated, though, and for that, I'm sorry as well.

*gets a ski-mask* Woo!

Anyway.
Back on track.

So this thing. Single organizations in charge of global mandates are... well... bad. Would you like one organization to run the internet, without you even being aware of the sort of decisions they were making about it? How would you know that they were doing things for your best interests?

In addition, anything that cuts the public out of the decision making process (be it at a town, state, country or global level) is a bad idea. So read up and have a look to see if you think this is as scary as it sounds.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean the weather. XD There was an article about somepony proposing being able to pump sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere to increase the albedo and cool things off to mitigate global warming. Problem is, would you want ONE organization affecting the entire planet like that? Same concept here. Do you want ONE organization that you have no direct say so in controlling something for everypony?

Dear Princess Celestia... Today I learned that trying to post things that are important to me in a public forum is good, but doing it while I'm tired and potentially not in completely faculty over my linguistics skills, are bad. In the future, should I decide that something is important enough to me to post about, but I think that might be the case, I will ask my friends to post it for me. I need to understand that while I am eager to be an instrument of creation in the world, my ego will always get in the way of that, if I let it...and when I'm vulnerable due to sleep deprivation, my ego has a bad habit of running away with me. Asking my friends to help me removes my ego and forces me to be humble, and I need to do this more often. And because my ego has this habit of running away from me...my friends may be able to help me spread important messages with far more eloquence than I could muster, myself.

Your faithful student,

*hugs* It's fine. Besides, I realize that it is important to you! Sucky sleep and sucky situations makes for sucky interactions on all fronts.

On the topic...
O.o Why do you think people keep on muckin' with the internets? Is it a control thing or do they really not understand what they have in their hands?
