server reset

Postby Sips_Nos » Sat Jul 20, 2013 2:10 pm

i was thinking about a world reset because the server is abandoned and people have nothing to do anymore so maybe a world reset will repopulate the server. what does everypony else think about a reset? plus there will be new items like quartz

There doesn't appear to be much of an opinion on this one, or maybe people just aren't looking at the thread again.

I personally wouldn't mind a reset as always but, as always I ask for a backup map for people to download.

For what it's worth, I for one will check out the server to examine the state of its population, and give you all my opinions if you'd like.

Sure, check it out, but is it currently busy much? if not, might be a good time to just reset it.

I'd welcome a map reset. I put a lot into the old map but honestly, I'd be perfectly fine with starting a new one.

Server map updated in top post.

In other news, the subject of mobgriefing was brought up again. If you want the server to have mobgriefing disabled, please post in this thread with why. If you are against the notion, please also post to prevent any change.

(Mob griefing is where mobs like creepers and endermen can alter the environment and damage structures players have built. It is on by default, turning it off means creepers will still explode but not damage houses, and endermen cannot pick up blocks)

That sounds to easy. Though it would help if Creepers stopped blowing everything up. I'm gonna have to vote against it though. To much fun to try and keep the creepers from blowing things up. Also, Endermen can only pick up dirt and sand, so its not a huge deal.

Notice:Server is currently suffering a major bug/issue. You may not be able to reach it right now but we are working on a solution. Thank you for your understanding. Thread will be updated when server is fixed.

I always thought that Endermen couldn't move blocks that were placed by a player...

I'm on the fence about mob griefing. I do like not having to worry about it, but on the other hand, I do enjoy the added reward for fending off the messer-upper mobs. So I will not submit a vote in either direction currently.

Also, what is a process for obtaining a copy of the old map? I would like to have it for sentimental reasons. c:

That poor spawn. :<

Oni, Shine and no_space put a lot of time into that spawn. Why'd you go do that? How are signposts with instructions and a free place to camp overnight a barrier for newbies?

EDIT: The majority of Minecraft multiplayer servers, whitelisted, pvp, custom mods, vanilla, whatever, have a spawning building/room/area/etc where new players get acclimated with the rules and what's available to them. It provides new players a shelter from mobs if they arrive at night, as well. The spawn built had a sign-posted teleporter exit, and was in no way hindering new players from exploring or otherwise enjoying the server.

I don't know who all runs the server, but there was a definite lack of communication involved here. I hope that nopony does, in fact, leave over this silliness, but I urge you to chat with fellow admins/mods/etc and sort this out amicably.

I will no longer be organizing this thread or the server itself. Please do not attempt to message me for matters involving Minecraft as I will not get them, thank you.
Due to recent unrelated changes, additional changes pending.

Hehehe, I'm gonna go out and say this: I don't think that spawnpoint is a hindrance for newbies. If anything, it would help somepony new to the game get acclimated and have someplace safe to stay (like me, who arrived at night).

All that aside, I was incredibly disoriented. I'd never seen a spawn point like that before and it really threw me off. But I'm out of there now and doing my own thing so huzzah! A fresh pallet on a spiffy new server! Also, horses riding horses...

@Sand_Rivers: Can you please state what part of the spawn was disorientating so it can be improved for the future.
Please also note the spawn area has undergone some minor repairs and changes.

SPLEEF

Shine might type up more about it later but thanks to her, WE HAVE IT

Image
Image

  • Easily visible from the spawnpoint (or SPACE)
  • Up to four ponies may enter with nothing but the shovel they're given, but only one can remain on top
  • Fully functional and fully automated, just start the game and everything sets itself up

We'd love for everypony to give it a go whenever they want to, but make sure you read the instructions fully before pushing anything. You will lose your stuff if you're not careful, and we won't be held responsible!

Like the spawn it should be relatively sturdy, but as always, do try not to blow it up.

Thanks no_space.

If anypony finds any bugs with the Spleef arena system or has ideas on how to improve it, don't be afraid to share, it could help a lot.

I think there should be two or three layers of dirt instead of just one. Either that or don't make the shovels quite so instantaneous digging. I think it would lead to a little more strategy and planning, as opposed to shovel-flailing and having the match end in 10 seconds.
