Griefing Problem

We've had a bit of a griefing problem I'm sorry to say.

This means to say, the starter area, as well as several player properties have been damaged, and there may have been item thefts.
Damage to buildings ranges, some minor some major cases. Fire damage, explosions, and grief by other means.

We don't know who is responsible, and have little way of knowing so, possibly even after obtaining the logs.
It may or may not have been somepony who regulars Fillydelphia at all.

(If you have an idea who might have done this, please PM/Whisper myself or Variety. Do not post your suspicions in this thread)
Edit: Case solved, player has been banned, damage is being repaired.

In terms of a solution to this, I suggest we start using a white list to prevent this happening again. (I understand this would not help if the culprit is that of somepony who we already know, and regulars Fillydelphia)
Additionally, to 'fix' the damage, I must point out version 1.3 SHOULD soon be released. I suggest we generate a new map when this happens, not just to start over, but also to generate new content that is not available 1.2.5 map generation. Using 1.2.5 map again is totally acceptable also.
(If anypony has any objections/suggestions to either of these things, please post in the thread)

Apologies to those who were affected.

We don't HAVE to start again. I'd like to know what players think. Apparently quite a lot of work has been put into certain things. It's totally viable to keep the map we have.

Oh man, I was just thinking of trying this game, and now I find out you can be vandalized and stolen from? Sounds kinda stressful.

I know I don't play yet... but I don't think you should restart the whole server, otherwise the terrorist win. Although, when the next version is released, it would be a good idea to update. Until the update, I recommend just keep on keeping on.

It's possible but not likely (on this server anyway) and it was an isolated case.

There are no terrorists. It is entirely possible to update the server itself without generating a new map.

That depends on how all the players feel. So far I've only been given ONE outright objection to a new map.

I would highly appreciate it for any and all players on the server to tell me:
"Yes, new 1.3 map (When it comes out)" or "No, lets keep the current map."

The server will be updated to 1.3 anyway, it's the map I'm asking about.

Edit: I also forgot to mention, server is now at NORMAL difficulty again, due to requests.

Yes. Here is the change log for 1.3.

Keep in mind though, MOST of these features will work fine if we keep the same map, and others will be harder to come across, without much more exploring.

So no it is not essential to generate the map to get the new features, but it would be much easier to come across the randomly generated ones. (That is if they generate at all upon exploring, I don't know this for certain)

From what I can tell, it mostly comes down to if people want a better chance to find Desert Villages, Desert Temples, and Jungle Temples. Oh, and I suppose a chance to find emeralds, but those look obscenely rare to find. I'm fine with it either way, though the idea of exploring temples does sound fun.

12 points for Hufflepuff.

On top of that, there's also the matter of cocoa plants which we wont have, but we can plant those if anypony has any cocoa, and I'm sure somepony does.
And also villages, with ah.. villagers that are alive. I haven't seen a single village but something tells me whoever has found one has killed all the npcs residents, as they do. Emeralds are used to trade with villages. I will likely end up making an artificial one so that people may trade with them.

I have cocoa. And I think somepony already tried to make an artificial village and it didn't work. But heres hoping.
Also I'm good either way if we generate a new map or not, its just a game and everything can be rebuilt.

It didn't work because we were on hard and zombies broke in. That is probably ALSO why any NPC villages we may have found at any point are dead. Zombies open doors on hard. Iron golems can't fit through doors to help NPCs

Some fascinating new features. I'd be all for a new map if the majority votes that way.

Would it be possible to have a creative mode area independent of the survival mode area?

Some of us prefer to keep our survival mode free of the large elaborate and wonderful structures of the creative mode people. If that can only by done by simply by dividing the map, then we can do that but if there was a way to have two different maps, one for creative and one for survival, then that would be awesome. Thoughts?

Possibly! But it's on normal now so it should be fine. So I'll be making one of those later.

So far, there have been more objections (But mostly 'maybes') in terms of a new map. So far you are the only one who has outright said yes to new map generation.

No, no creative mode. Reasoning behind this is, last time this happened, it straight up ruined the game for survival players. I know you think you can have a separate area, but this obviously didn't work on the previous map.
Yes it's possible to have two different maps but NOT with vanilla software (Normal server). And no, that does not mean we should use custom server software, please see previous posts about the issue for why.

I'd certainly be bummed if they reset the server... but on the other hoof, half the fun of Minecraft is getting started. Granted, there are still some more things I'd like to do with my castle, it wouldn't be the end of the world for me if I had to build a new one somewhere else.

So far no one has really desired such. Except perhaps Tek. everypony else so far has been a 'maybe' or 'I am okay with this if it happens'



In other news, we will be implementing a white-list due to recent events and sightings a few non-filly members on the server, in addition to worries by certain players. Don't worry, this will not really affect any players already known.
I would however, like a list of names, as I don't know ALL the ponies who play. Please PM me, or post in this thread, your Minecraft username so that you have access to the server when the white list is activated. Also possibly give me your friends usernames too, if they don't read this thread.

Future joiners will simply need to sign up for Fillydelphia and PM/post their username.

Edit: If anypony is having trouble joining the server, don't fret, it's possibly due to the authorization server at minecraft.net being down currently.
