Map of Ponyville
Since we're using the new, expanded map of Equestria, I'd like to re-submit this map of Ponyville to be our official reference in chat. We will have to talk to the artist for permission to do so, of course.
This is an awesome map. The artist re-watched every episode with a close eye for the layout of the streets and buildings, so it's as show-accurate as such a map can be.
Here's the map:
http://aurebesh.deviantart.com/art/Roug ... 93498&qo=0
And here are his proofs, showing how he placed each building and street, according to what's on the show:
http://aurebesh.deviantart.com/gallery/31093498
He's also currently working on floor plans for Town Hall, Sugarcube Corner, the Library, Fluttershy's cabin, and Carousel Boutique.

We might want to pick one of the un-allocated buildings in the Hub to be MojitoJoe's 52nd and Mane restaurant.
Since we're assuming the existence of a hotel, we should also do the same for that.
Ponies who have permanent residences might want to pick a building in "The Tri" or in the cluster of buildings around the Windmill to be their house.

Ok, according to our chat room layout, here's what I think things look like with the official map.
I'd suggest maybe adding a Whitetail Wood and Canterlot rooms, but they aren't really necessary. The Whitetail Wood can just be part of the Residential Room, and the Other room works well enough for trips to Canterlot and Cloudsdale.

Not a bad idea, we probably should start some kind of registering process for /all/ the housing? Cause right now, the position of which are all kinda vague. I will be happy to work on it. Would that be a good idea?
And nice job with the edit, I will try think of some way to organizes it a bit more yet.

Thanks!
I don't know if we should get as complicated as a registration process, but if somepony wants to pick a spot on the map for their house, they can let a moderator know and have it labeled as such on our official map.
If a lot of RP happens at a player's house, like at Iona's or Joe's, we might want to label it anyway just as a point of reference.
The building he calls "The Mansion" could be the hotel.
There's a building down and to the left of the fountain, across the street from the building with the pink dot on it, in a block by itself. I think that one would work for Joe's restaurant. Of course, the actual choice should be Joe's, but that's my suggestion. In RP, it's pretty much been the norm that events going on in the Town Square are easily visible from the restaurant. Thus, the restaurant should be one of the buildings that border the square itself. That one's as good a choice as any. It's labeled as N on this map:
http://aurebesh.deviantart.com/gallery/ ... 8#/d3kfqej
The building marked M would work, too, but N looks bigger and would probably be a better fit.
So, if Joe likes the idea, we even have an idea of what the restaurant looks like!

And, to be the first player to claim a location not already shown on the map for her OC's residence...
In RP I've mentioned that Thistledown lives in a small cottage by a river near the Everfree Forest. On that map, I'd put it over the river from Fluttershy's house. I could place it on the same side of the river as Fluttershy's house, placing Fluttershy's between the edge of the forest and Thistledown's place. That would give Thistledown more room for her fields. However, part of the concept of Thistledown is that sometimes "Steven Magnet" comes to visit her. I'm not sure if he or the residents of Ponyville would feel comfortable having him come that close to town. I'm also not sure he could make it under or around the little bridge there. Besides, the image in my mind's eye puts her cottage right beside the forest, so that's really the only place it could be. Her fields, really only meant to support herself anyway, can easily fit in the green space there by the forest and across the road bordering on SAA.

I think Building N could work... Unless of course we want to re-imagine building M as being bigger then it appears in the show? After all I did RP that Joe built his building from the ground up.

On his map they are roughly the same size. But in the pictures from the show, M is considerably smaller than N.
But we don't have to get that nit-picky about it, and Joe built a new building for his restaurant anyway. Either one will work for our map, or Joe could pick another spot and we can edit the map as I did to show Thistledown's cottage.

Re: Map of Ponyville
I kinda feel like, if we start to get this specific about these kinds of things, it just gets confusing. Like if people are suddenly trying to apply actual values to bits and things, instead of just giving AJ half a bit or producing 'the appropriate amount of bits' to pay their tab, it gets bogged down. Thus far, simply saying 'the house by the lake' or 'the shop in the square' has worked extremely well from what I've seen. Having an exact layout of the town isn't necessary if all you want to do is have a character go to 52nd and Mane, and once you get it down to specifics like that, I think it can actually interfere with RP, since there'll be some who want to get technical and say, 'Oh, you'd never be able to get from here to there like that,' and it's just a big mess. If people want to pick out exact locations for their businesses or homes for whatever reason, then by all means, but I don't think it should ever be mandatory.
However, I could support a restructuring of the chatrooms or simply the overall layout of the town if it's to stick with actual established canon, even though that, too, is often subject to change between episodes.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the matter.

I see this simply as an experiment and a rather fun one.

I agree no space. I don't think it should be required that every pony's house be pointed out on the map. If somepony *wants* to pick a spot, as I have, just for kicks, then that's up to them.
I was only trying to find a building to represent Joe's because a LOT of RP happens there, and it might be helpful to know where it is and even have an in-show picture of what it looks like.

Re: Map of Ponyville
I've given this a little bit of thought, and am now ready to take Mayday up on her suggestion for possibly re-arranging the chat rooms using this map as a guide.
The rooms I propose are the Hub, Western Ponyville, the Northern Park, the Residential Area, the Southern Fields, Sweet Apple Acres, the Wilds, and Other.
The map is attached. (Redrawn again to include Carousel Boutique in the Residential area).
The Hub
Landmarks: Town Hall, Town Square, 52nd and Mane, the Spa, the Joke Shop, Sugarcube Corner.
Twilight's Library and Surroundings (AKA Western Ponyville)
Landmarks: The Library, the school, the clock tower.
The Residential Area
Landmarks: The windmill, the pink and white lighthouse-looking tower, Carousel Boutique. Anypony who has their own residence can assume that it is located somewhere here. They can, of course, have houses elsewhere in town, but in general this is the Residential area.
The Northern Park
Landmarks: None really, but the park is often seen in the show. It's a great venue for races, recreation, picnics, outdoor concerts, dances... anything you can imagine as taking place in a large park. Can be merged with the Other room if it's not deemed important enough to warrant its own room.
The Fields
Landmarks: Farmland, non-apple crops, the stargazing hill. Any pony who wants to run a small farm or other agricultural pursuit can assume that they are located here. For example, my beekeeper pony, Honeybun, runs the Clover Hills Apiary, which would be located here. Can be merged with the Other room if it's not deemed important enough to warrant its own room.
Sweet Apple Acres
Landmarks: The SAA barns, the cow barn, the lake, the orchard, the CMC clubhouse. SAA is the single largest business and location in Ponyville, so I figure it warrants its own room.
The Wilds
Landmarks: Fluttershy's house, the Everfree Forest, the mountains.
Other
Landmarks: The Whitetail Woods, Canterlot, whatever else it needs to be for an event.
Well? What do you think?

Re: Map of Ponyville
I may redraw this anyway.
I want to add "the Park" to the Residential section. Not the section I call the Northern Park, but the area labeled "The Park" and "Start of the Running of the Leaves." We can assume that Greg the Tree and Tom the Rock are there.
I also think that SCC should be in the Hub, since everypony's familiar with it being there already.
Also, the Northern Park and Southern Fields sections can be added to the Other room, if its decided that they're not significant enough for their own rooms.
I don't have time to do it right now before I have to get to work, but I'll make the changes tonight or tomorrow.

Maybe the med tent should be relabled "Kite's second house".

We've been playing that the med tents are in the Hub, and there's no real need to change that.
If you want an actual location on that specific map, how about the three tents (indicated by colored circles) on the map right across from the Bookstore? The boundary for the Hub can easily be tweaked a little to include them.
