Well, it looks like we're looking at a kid for Princess Cadance and Shining Armor, the toys normally point at the show after all, not to mention her color scheme is quite close.
Anywho, do we know how many episodes there'll be in season 3? I still remember that 13 episode rumor but I'm hoping it's not true.

Still 13 as far as I know.
And my theory is that Skyla is the reason that the wedding happened almost before Twi knew about it.

If she is in the show, I'm hoping she won't look like the box art. If she's aged up that much by the season 3 premiere, what would that mean for the Cake twins?
So, my hope is that if Princess Skyla becomes show-canon, she's shown with the usual model for baby ponies.

If these are from the opening episodes... yikes. Now -that's- dark. And as for Trixie... what's the necklace for? Maybe she's joined up with the villain to take revenge on Twilight and friends?

*nods* I completely agree. I also wonder about the rest of Ponyville, and why the outfits in the Boutique's interior do not at all measure up to Rarity's usual work.

A few thing pretty interesting with the latest Season 3 spoiler:
Here we can see some possible connection between Trixie and the next Major Villain(?). No matter what, that thing Trixie is wearing is going to be a major tell of what is going to happen.

Pinkie, Rarity, and Cadance don't seem to have that hexagonal look in their eyes. I wonder why what is?

I've seen some folks complaining that King Sombre seemed to have little motivation, and that it was unclear why the Crystal Empire needed to be saved, etc.
It was clear to me... crystal clear, one might say.
In episode 1, Princess Celestia told Twilight that the Crystal Empire reflected love and hope all over Equestria. I don't think that was just allegory. I think that is literal. Because, immediately after, she says that if King Sombre, who's heart was filled with hatred and fear, were to resume control... well... she doesn't finish that sentence, but the implication is quite apparent. In charge of the Crystal Kingdom, using his dark magic to power the Crystal Heart, he would reflect hatred and fear all across Equestria.
And as to why saving the crystal ponies was important, even before they found out about their ability to power up the Crystal Heart?
They're ponies, too, and ponies look out for each other!

Judging from other pics I've seen that are supposedly from the "Magical Duel" episode, I think those pics of run-down Ponyville are from that episode.

Are there any plans for making crystal ponies available to us in RP?
Are we going to limit the crystal effect to only ponies living within the boundaries of the crystal kingdom?

Check the main page. :)
They are letting you make up a Crystal Pony, but unless and until we find out more about what they can do, the mods are treating them as Earth Ponies. They just have gradient manes and fancy mane styles. They're only crystalline and sparkly within the boundaries of the Crystal Empire.

anypony else feel kinda... underwhelmed by this season's villain?
I'm not going to complain that he didn't have motivation (ruling over a kingdom with hoards of slaves is kind of it's own motivation) but the character as a whole just felt shallow. I mean, Nightmare Moon was a darn good villain, Discord was amazing and who didn't get chills when Chrysalis revealed herself? They interacted with the protagonists, goaded them and presented a clear threat. This guy was just so... impersonal. He barely even said anything, choosing instead to ominously say "Shard" every now and again like Nemesis looking for STARS. Where's the villainous monologues? Where's the boasting when the hero is down and they are sure that they've won? I'm not saying every villain should be exactly the same but there's common themes that enrich a villain and make them that much more satisfying as an antagonist.
That one complaint aside, It was a darn good opener! Every pony in the mane cast got their fair share of screen-time so nopony was left out and Spike got a moment in the sun that he well deserved. We finally got to see that Luna actually had a part to play in ruling Equestria too (for all those Luna fans out there). All in all, a little disappointed with the villain but otherwise quite pleased!
