I run Nurgle CSM for 40K and Lizardmen for Fantasy. I'm also cursed with horrible horrible luck with my rolls.

TAU
1 Commander Farsight (In the mail -_-*)
2 Crisis Commander
2 Crisis Bodyguard (Working on getting 2 more)
9 Crisis suits
(^ All with magnetized weapons)
8 Stealth suits (Mix of stuff, only built to fill out points for an upcoming Apoc game)
55 Fire Warriors +5 Shas'Ui (Need to get another kit of these)
40 Kroot Warriors
4 Devilfish (Need to get 2 more of these)
3 Pathfinders +1 Shas'Ui
3 Broadside suits
2 Hammerheads w/ Railguns
1 Sniper Drone team (My first Finecast. I am NOT impressed)
3 Marker Drones
4 Shield Drones (Need 2 more kits of these)
~30 Gun Drones

(Eventual) Paint Scheme:
Chaos Black primer for cloth/mechanical underlayer stuff
~3 layers Kommando Khaki for base/armor
~2 layers Dark Angels Green for detail/sept markings
X layers Blood Red, Enchanted Blue, Liche Purple, Shining Gold, Chainmail, Dwarf Bronze for squad markings. I'll be putting them on the edge of the base for everything with one, and on those little nodules covering the hover tanks since they don't have nice paintable bases.

BLOOD ANGELS
1 Chaplain w/ Bolt Pistol and Crozius Arcanum (it's a power weapon)
5 Death Company w/ Bolt Pistol and Chainsword
1 Death Company Dreadnought w/ Blood Talons, Heavy Flamer, and Meltagun
3 Furioso Librarian
3 Dreadnought w/ Missile Launcher and Assault Cannon (Working on getting Autocannons from Forge World, for both sides of each dread)
(Eventual) Paint scheme will be evocative of Pinkie Pie! Why? Cupcakes.:pinkiecrazy:

~

I too, am cursed by the dice. I can expect to miss about 50% more than I should (statistically) at shooting. Melee with the angels has been pretty good to me though.

:twilightoops: Dear merciful Nurgle, that's a lot of Dreadnaughts.

While the specifics of my army tend to change based on who I'm playing and the point totals, I usually field the same core every time.

Nurgle Army Core
HQ-
Typhus - 225p
Chaos Sorcerer Terminator Mark of Nurgle with a Familiar, Gift of Chaos, and Wind of Chaos - 200p

Elites-
10 Terminator Champions with twin lightning claws and the Icon of Nurgle - 540p (Go Wolverines!)

Total: 965

Against your Blood Angels, I'd probably field a full Obliterator Squad and one of my own Dreadnoughts.

For the angels, that IS the core. Exactly equals 1250.
If I need more points, add (1 more Death Dread, 4 more Death Company w/ Bolt Pistol/Chainsword, and 1 Death Company w/ Infernus Pistol/Chainsword)=250, up to 5 times.

Tau core is going to be:
1500+
Farsight + 2 Bodyguard (TL Plasma Rifle, Shield Gen)
3x 3 Crisis Suit (TL Missile Pod, Flamer)
1 (6 Fire Warriors + Devilfish w/ Disruption Pod) per 500 points of the game, rounded up
=1213/1500; 1358/2000; 1503/2500; 1648/3000
As many railguns as I can fit in from there.
Add in 2 more bodyguards and some shield drones for the Crisis teams when possible.
1250 or less
2x Commander Shas'El (Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, Targeting Array, Hard-Wired Multi-Tracker)
3x 2 Crisis Suits (TL Missile Pod, Flamer)
2x (6 Fire Warrior + Devilfish w/ Disruption Pod)
1 Broadside suit w/ Shield Gen
=856

I have a funny little parallel, which I use as a kind of justification for my Blood Angels:

Sanguinius:
Primarch of the Blood Angels
Blond
Wings

Surprise:
Original design of Pinkie Pie
Blond
Wings

Coincidence?
Also possible:
Black Rage <-> Party of One (and/or Cupcakes)

Can't the Death Company hold objectives? They are Troops, as is the Death Dread.

The Death Company have the "Black Rage" special rule. It subjects them to the Rage USR and makes them unable to control objectives besides.
The Death Dread is a vehicle, which means it can't control objectives either. Yeah, that's a rule. Troops that are vechicles (aside from transports with troops in them) can't control objectives. It's buried in the Mission types and deployments section.

OK, Boom-squad, Tank-busters, and Plague Marines in Rhinos would be a good combo for keeping my objectives. If I hold even one, I win.

Welp, I spent today from 8am-8pm in a 40k on each side apoc game. Imperium vs Xenos (and traitor guard).
Imperium has 1st turn, and we got through shooting phase of imperial turn 3. 10am tomorrow we begin assault phase.

I have basically everything in my inventory in this game (minus 1 of the marker drones), and my stuff is nearly wiped. My total contribution is 4.5k
Currently, I'm down to:
11 Fire Warriors + Shas'ui in Devilfish w/ drones still attached.
1 Fire Warrior + Shas'ui currently retreating, they can regroup next turn.
Devilfish of (^) is immobilized and weaponless. Still technically alive.
1 Gun Drone of (^) is left.
2x (3x Crisis Suits [TL Missile Pod, Shield Gen], 2 Gun Drones) about to be assaulted by hammer/shield termies. Still technically alive, but won't be soon enough.
1x Crisis Team like (^) in reserve
2 separate Broadsides who have not rolled higher than a 1 on an armor penetration roll yet.
Pathfinder Devilfish with Sniper Drone team embarked and Gun Drones still attached.
6 Kroot Carnivores out of a squad of 20.

The field is thus: 4 6x4 tables and a 4x4 table make an X shape, and another 4x6 table is the underground cavern. Deployment zones were the far halves of adjacent long tables. the rest is covered by huge billboards and rocky mesas. in the middle of where the long tables connect to the square one, there are 1' by 1' buildings that act as elevators down to the cavern. The elevator buildings, 2 bunkers opposite each other midway between the deployment zones and the elevator buildings, and an obelisk in the cavern are the objectives. The obelisk is worth 3 control points, the elevator buildings are considered under control of the last side to use them, and it's always night fight in the cavern.

It's not looking good for us xenos. The imperial side has so many formations that after giving each player one, they have 16 strategic assets. Our strategy was to have my Fire Warrior Counter Strike (formation that makes 1 Devilfish and and 1-3 others within 12" fast) and my infiltrated Kroot and Stealth teams get to the elevators ASAP and set up a gun line around the obelisk until the Orks, Necrons, and Traitor Guard could back me up. Yeah, that didn't happen. Between Strategic Redeployment, Careful Planning, and an 8 Drop Pod formation full of Sternguard Veterans, we lost a good deal of our tanks, and half of what I was supposed to be running downstairs. AND there was a nice line of drop pods keeping me from getting the full 24" for my formation while a line of land raiders blocked off our Guard on the other table. 20 Kroot and 5 Stealth suits made it down an elevator, only to have a Vindicator and a Rhino come down right behind them. The Vindicator blew away my Stealth Suits and the stupid Rhino forced my Kroot to flee with a tank shock, so next turn they went BACK up the elevator to come face to face with an Assault Squad. Oh, and our Imperator Titan went apocalyptic explosion, taking out about a third of our stuff, and a little bit from their side. And while all this was going on, a bajillion White Scars on bikes are coming down the other elevators.

So my local game store got in some old 'Nid battle forces. Combined with the new one on the shelf, I could have 9 Warriors, 24 Genestealers, 32 Termagaunts, 32 Hormagaunts, 3 Ripper Swarms, and 2 Carnifexes for $280+tax. Think I should go for it?

I'd have to make at least one of the warriors into a Tyranid Prime to have a playable army.
I'd also like to avoid having to get anything else from GW for this, since they are not that reliable in filling orders to this area.

If you want a nid army, then YES. Also, see if they have an HQ unit on the shelves so you don't need to proxy.

I do have a certain fondness for the bugs. And I can get HQs out of the Warriors, Just mark it different and it's now a Tyranid Prime.

Update on my nids. I'm going to leave it a 1250 army for newcomers tourneys at my FLGS. Also not going to buy any boxes since GW likes to take upwards of a month to ship to this area.

Still need a little help with the list. 1200 gets me:
Tyranid Prime w/ Deathspitter, Regeneration
13x Genestealer w/ Toxin Sacs
16x Termagant w/ Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs
16x Termagant w/ Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs
4x Tyranid Warrior w/ 3x Deathspitter, 1x Venom Cannon
4x Tyranid Warrior w/ 3x Deathspitter, 1x Venom Cannon
2x Carnifex w/ Bio Plasma

Anybody with the codex care to chime in?
limit of models is still 9 Tyranid Warriors/Primes, 24 Genestealers, 32 Hormagaunts, 32 Termagaunts, 3 Ripper Swarms, 2 Carnifexes.

I'm going to have to assume that option is from the 4th edition codex. I'm using the 5th edition codex.
