Re: Map of Ponyville
Of course this all depends on whether or not the mods want to go through the trouble of making new rooms. Mayday asked for suggestions, so these are mine. If you have a different idea, please share!

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: 'we're all mad here.'

Ok I've tweaked the map and re-uploaded it.
I see no reason to change the name of the Twilight's Library area, since everypony knows it by that name already.
This new proposal would only see the need for creating 3 new rooms: Sweet Apple Acres, The Northern Park, and The Fields.

Yeah, why isn't SAA already a room? It's prety dang important in the show.
This signature needs to be about 20% more Mr. Bunny.

Re: Map of Ponyville
Here's an even better suggestion from Mayday. I like this one because it needs the creation of only one new room, and causes the least amount of shakeup with how the rooms already "map" to Ponyville.
The Hub
Landmarks: Town Hall, Town Square, 52nd and Mane, the Spa, the Joke Shop, Sugarcube Corner.
Twilight's Library and Surroundings
Landmarks: The Library, the school, the clock tower, the Northern Park.
The Residential Area
Landmarks: The windmill, the pink and white lighthouse-looking tower, Carousel Boutique. Anypony who has their own residence can assume that it is located somewhere here. They can, of course, have houses elsewhere in town, but in general this is the Residential area.
Sweet Apple Acres and the Fields
Landmarks: The SAA barns, the cow barn, the lake, the orchard, the CMC clubhouse, other farmland, the stargazing hill. Any pony who wants to run a small farm or other agricultural pursuit can assume that they are located here. For example, my beekeeper pony, Honeybun, runs the Clover Hills Apiary, which would be located here.
The Wilds
Landmarks: The Everfree Forest, the mountains, Froggy Bottom Bog.
Other
Landmarks: The Whitetail Woods, Canterlot, whatever else it needs to be for an event.

This is looking great, if there are no objection we are likely to add "Sweet Apple Acres and the Fields" and adjusts the other room accordingly.

I like it! As long as we can have an easily accessible link to the pic.

I agree that SAA should be it's own room.

Yup. I asked the artist, he told us we can do -anything we want- with it. And I intent to keep credit clearly visible obviously.
Probably not just going to be a link to a flat image, cause that is boring.

Awesome! I'm glad I was able to help in some way.
How about posting the map with the borders I edited in on the page that describes the rooms?

Alright, this is up! New room added!
No room flavor text yet, we probably need one that are shorter then the one before.

Re: Map of Ponyville
So... I was bored, and thought I'd just see what I could do. Tried to keep them all to about two sentences each, and maintain a balance of concision, precision, and flavor.
The Wilds
The timeless Everfree Forest, home to the ruins of the ancient Castle of the Sisters, looms imposingly before you, thick trees quickly swallowing up the light from outside and obscuring the countless critters, creatures, and horrors lurking within. There’s plenty of exploring to do, but even more danger for those who aren’t cautious.
Residential Areas
This strip of homes and businesses runs along the outer rim of town, and houses most of its citizens – including Ponyville’s local fashionista and her renowned Carousel Boutique. As you wander further out from town, however, the homes grow sparse, and once more begin to give way to countryside.
The Hub
You’ve arrived at the heart of Ponyville, the square that is actually a circle arranged around Town Hall. While it lacks the hustle and bustle of the big cities, there are always ample ponies out and about visiting the various shops and restaurants – including the famous Sugarcube Corner – or preparing for a day of relaxation at the spa.
Twilight’s Library Surroundings
On the outskirts of town, you finally catch a glimpse of Ponyville’s arborous library, with its resident librarian, Twilight Sparkle. Further down the road lies the bane of every foal’s existence, the red schoolhouse, and over the short bridge just beyond that, the charming trails and gardens of the large public park.
Sweet Apple Acres and the Fields
The fragrant smell of apples and loam fills the air as you near the expansive orchards of Sweet Apple Acres, and beyond them the gently rolling fields of the surrounding countryside. Other small farms and fields occasionally break up the landscape, and a pristine lake lies glittering beneath the sun. Over a small stream, tucked away near the imposing Everfree, Fluttershy’s humble cottage blends seamlessly with the natural environment around it.
Other
Leaving behind Ponyville proper, you come to the scenic White Tail Woods, site of the annual Running of the Leaves. Follow its trails long enough, and you just might make it to Canterlot for a taste of high Equestrian society. This room also serves as a general purpose room for any events that do not quite fit the other areas.

Re: Map of Ponyville
I like them! Short, to the point, and they concisely tell everypony what they can find in that room.
The only suggestion I might make is to add 52nd and Mane to your description of the Hub room. It's such a fixture of our chats now that I think it deserves special mention.

Well, I tried to keep it to the strictly canon locations, but I guess you're right about that. Quick fix, away!

Re: Map of Ponyville
Hmm, that's a good point about the canon locations. I can see points on both sides of the idea.
What do others think? Should non-canon locations be pointed out in the descriptive text, or left to the "Landmarks" list?

Re: Map of Ponyville
If the original location is regularly promoted, well done, and/or regularly filled with pony, I don't see why we can't give them special mention. While we try to stick with canon, I do not considers original location any lesser then canon location. At the very least it should be mentioned in land marks. In the actual description though, perhaps better to leave to canon so we don't have to rewrite it every time somepony add something.

Re: Map of Ponyville
On the wiki page that has the map, no credit is given to Aurebesh, who's map of Ponyville we're using to map the chat rooms.
http://fillydelphia.com/content/locations
His DA page for the map is here:

He mentioned on a post to my DA page that he is working on updating it, and a revision might be forthcoming in the next few weeks or so.
Here's the gallery for the Ponyville map, which shows the research he went through to create the map, why things are where they are, and gives a good visual reference for each section:

Aurebesh also has show-accurate floor plans to many of the important buildings seen in the show. They are here:

Re: Map of Ponyville
And now he's expanded his map to the areas beyond Ponyville, locating Manehattan, Cloudsdale, and the Diamond Fields (aka where the Diamond Dogs live).
http://aurebesh.deviantart.com/#/d4jjksr
Note that Manehattan seems awfully close to Ponyville, but that's not mean to be to scale, really. It's just mean to show general direction and location.

That last one seem a little bit of a stretch... not accurate enough to worth using in my opinion. Not even the direction.
Totally not his fault, he did the best he can... just that the show is really fuzzy about locations in that scale.

Aurebesh is working on an updated map to account for new things in Season 2. It's nowhere near done yet, but here it is:

Aurebesh has updated his map of Ponyville, using information learned in Season 2.

Do we wand to stick with the current map, or update to this one?

Hmm. I think I like the version we use better. This one.... might be more show accurate, but also might not be. It is more of a guessmiate then anything... at the same time it is wholefully cluttered. Doesn't seem like a City planning will have big empty spot on one side of the town hall while everything is on the other side.
